Investigator Does Missionary Work!

Howdy vous autres,

BIG NEWS: One of our investigators, had her baby on the 17th. SO yeah pretty neat:) Our primary investigator was super excited because it's her little sister. Speaking of our primary investigator, she is over a month clean of smoking now and really she is perfectly ready for baptism, so we will see how this week goes:)

A miracle that happened to nous autres, les missionaires, this week was a less active who we had been trying to contact for literally 2 months straight.. FINALLY, called us:) and told us to come over and help her dig her car out of the snow. This is a miracle because she doesn't like missionaries a whole lot because a couple of them offended her (and half the branch) a while back, but she likes us a lot! So the miracle, the snow caused her to "Give up her pride and call the missionaries for help" those were her words... and then... She came to church with her 7 year old son the next day:') c'etait trop beau. We also finally got contact with another less active just outside of Bathurst. She works with handicaps and loves it more than anything, and thats why she hasn't been to church because she has been taking care of many. But our primary investigator's son is Autistic and turns out... they are friends! This less active said she was going to come to church to surprise them.. Now we just got to get her to STAY at church for the rest of her life:)

We will be getting our transfer letters this Sunday. Elder Jason (Guadalupe) is leaving, as well as my trainer, Elder Waldie :( sad stuff eh. But we will be receiving new Frenchies!!! They are from, Italy, France, Spain, USA, and Catar? it's somewhere in the middle east.. but neat huh!

It was -27 two days ago, yesterday was -5 and snowing, and today is 5 and raining.... this place has weirder weather than utah.

It takes broken soil to produce a crop, broken clouds to give rain, broken grain to give bread, broken bread to give strength. It is the broken alabaster box that gives forth perfume. . . . it is Peter, weeping bitterly, who returns to greater power than ever.[“Broken Things,” an excerpt from Vance Havner, The Still Water

The trials make you strong:) love you all especially Jango. We did service at the animal shelter this week and we helped with 5 puppies that were left on the side of the road... it was great I got a lot of licks :)

Love you all!

Forgotten Christmas E-mail

Bonjour mes chers freres et souers,

Christmas in the mission field is wow. We sat in our appartments and studied/watched mission videos/ made cookies all day. It was really interesting haha.. BUT talking to the fam and Jango was great. There weren't any members who we could go over to visit because half of them moved south for winter (florida or south america) and the rest were somewhere else in canada.. BUT it was awesome. LOVE YOU FAMILY

To start off.. The champion Investigator is 10 days smoke free: One of our members asked her to be baptized again.. She said yes but she isn't on date yet.

Tonight, we are going to a german family's home for dinner! The husband invited us to eat lobster:) We will be teaching them tonight as well so pray for us!

Fun thing of the week.. Elder Portellano got mad at me because I never slip and I'm wearing church shoes... but he slips a few times a day and he has boots. I "Banned" him.
"You merely adopted the ice elder, I was Raised in it!"

This week was pretty spiritual. I read a letter that was written to a missionary about 30 years ago about An Elder Ricciardi.. In the letter this RM describes the difficulties of serving with him. Elder Ricciardi was a missionary who devoted everything, LITERALLY to preaching the gospel. He has a famous saying that some apostles have talked about.. "I fear no man"

So this elder was having a tough time in his first couple of weeks.. one day Elder Ricciardi went on a walk with him because he had a particularly bad day. he sat him down on a bench and asked the elder,
"Do you know who you are?"
the other elder replied "A child of god"
Ricciardi laughed and gave him 3 Nephi 5:13
"Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. JI have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life. YOU fear no man ELDER!"
Its silly but it is true.. There was a lot of things that happened in this letter.. its about 10 pages front and back long. But the one that touched me most was the prayer room story. He talked about a difficult time he had in an area. 5 months without any real investigators and a lot of slammed doors. He prayed in a room in the apartment and his companion saw him and how emotional he was in his prayer.. so his companion tried after.. and it became a prayer room. I can't tell you the whole story.. but a sincere prayer brings power... and when a few sincere prayers happen.. there is a lot of power. I love you all :)

2 Timothy 3:15 "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."

If you aren't searching your scriptures... you are missing out on your own salvation. love you all.

Happy Holidays & Commitment to Baptism!

January 5, 2015

OK. This week I went on exchanges back down to the promised land (Tracadie) where I was with Elder Jason (Guadeloupe) who leaves at the end of this month for his house.. While in Tracadie, we had a cold situation. It started off us, driving to visit a few potentials. Neither answered, so we went back to the 2014 Silverado aaaand. DEAD. Would not start. It was -22 and the windchill brought it down to just below -30. We knocked doors to find a jumper cable but nobody had one and really nobody answered the door either... We then sat in the car and prayed about what we should do, five minutes later we thought about calling potentials in the area book. Then a guy ran out of his house and yelled for us to come with him in his car, so we did. He drove us to just about every body shop in the region and NOBODY had jumper cables. So we returned to our truck and continued calling. We called a guy who was met in MAY 2014, so MONTHS in the past. He answered and he came and jumped our car with in 10 minutes:) It was the first miracle of that morning... THEN he invited us to his house at the moment while our truck charged.. 2nd miracle.  He was terrific. No doubt in my mind that the Tracadie missionaries will be baptizing him soon. Just wow. Prayer.

Also, last week our primary investigator committed to January 24 to be baptized! She is over 2 weeks clean from smoking and has no desire to do it ever again. Pretty crazy week. Super exciting. Our church got cancelled yesterday as well because of the snow! THERE'S A LOT.

Spider man quote in D&C... 82:3 "For of him unto whom much is given much is required......" HAHA love you all like crazy nuts! But also think about the scripture a bit.. every one of you has a lot, now do something about it! It's required.

Oh yeah, pray for Elder Portellano and I. This week is going to be a big one. This is some sushi... and a selfie while emailing:/ sorry mom the camera breaks in the cold! I'll take some this week though I promise:)

Bonne Anné! Je vous aime!
Vivre L'acadie!

December 22, 2014

Bonjour a toute ma famille et mes amis :)

This week was bizarre because of yesterday.. I will explain later haha.

Our Christmas Tree with presents from home

To start merry christmas everyone I love you all:) Our primary investigator came to church for her 6th time in a row... how rad is that? Also, she is three days clean of smoking and has smoked 1 time in the past 6 days! She is doing soooo good! Seriously the lord knows how to touch the hearts of people. She was smoking three packs a day!!! And in the past week she has only smoked once!!! Her mother still smokes all the time buut we haven't showed her the program yet.

I got kissed by a dog a few times and it was great:) We were at this investigator's house and he has a dog named "Timmy" because he was found as a puppy outside of a coffe store called Tim Hortons hahaha.. he got me a couple of times. Another one of our investigators compared us to the ninja turtles and I was the red one. We got a new car again.. The truck got sent to Tracadie and we now are driving a 2013 Impreza.

Ok, now for the weird thing. So, the mission has been using a lot of Facebook lately with winter. So we were on our area page last night talking to people and this one girl messaged us and was talking about how she missed meeting with missionaries and asked us to come over the next day (today). She then told us over Facebook that she wants to be baptized. Really Elder Portellano and I just looked at each other with a loss of words... we looked her up in the area book and she was taught almost two years ago and she came to church a bunch but disappeared... but reappeared now so we are teaching her tonight! Sounds like South America with people asking to be baptized though... ;) love you elder owen;)

"If we want to have a living, abiding faith, we must be active in the performance of every duty as members of this church." - Joseph Fielding Smith

"And we did magnify our office unto the Lord, taking upon us the responsibility, answering the sins of the people upon our own heads if we did not teach them the word of God with all diligence; wherefore, by laboring with our might their blood might not come upon our garments; otherwise their blood would come upon our garments, and we would not be found spotless at the last day." - Jacob 1:19

Faith without works is dead. So get to work! Do your duty and you'll find your own salvation.
Love you all! especially jango
